ISMAIL Mert Pekgün
Born in İstanbul, Turkey. Admitted to the İstanbul Bar Association after practicing at several law offices mainly focusing on maritime law. Mert graduated from University of İstanbul, Faculty of Law. Having concluded his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, he commenced his Master of Laws (LL.M.) – Private Law programme at the University of İstanbul, Institute of Social Sciences. Subsequently he obtianed his LL.M. degree. His LL.M. dissertation focuses on the liability of the shipowner. Mert continues his PhD studies at the University of Istanbul, Institute of Social Sciences (PhD - Private Law programme). His PhD studies mainly contain Maritime Law, Law of Contracts, Law of Obligations and Torts.
Before establishing PEKGÜN LAW OFFICE, he gained wide experience at well-known and respected law firms as a lawyer especially on maritime law regarding both wet & dry fields including cargo claims, crew claims, marine casualties, ship arrests, collisions, charter party disputes, bill of lading disputes, sea protests, general average disputes, salvage agreements, P&I disputes, H&M disputes, bunker disputes, agency disputes, maritime liens. He attended several cases regarding cargo claims, salvage & towage, ship arrests, marine casualties physically on board the vessels. He also dealt with negotiation process and information flow between parties regarding maritime law issues. Further he has considerable experience in the various branches of private law which can be seen under the section "Practice/Services". He also takes active role in litigation process. He is a native speaker of Turkish and advanced user of English. He is a member of the İstanbul Bar Association, Turkish Maritime Law Association, and the Marmara Private High School Graduates' Association.
